Outdoor Rockers For Your Patio

Filed under: Exteriors, House and Home

There is a foundational piece of furniture that has set the tone for most outdoor home and garden settings throughout the decades.  It is the old-fashioned rocking chair.  The outdoor rocker brings such a unique aura to the patio or backyard setting.  It is also amazing how the rocking chair brings so much joy and wistfulness to a person as they rock in their gorgous yard or on their wrap around porch.  I believe that outdoor rockers bring the “home” feeling into your yard because of its unique decorative style, peacefulness, and its ability to rejuvenate the memory.

It is amazing how the rocking chair can fit into the decor of a home as well as in an outdoor environment.  The outdoor rocking chair is very durable and made of special material that withstands all types of weather.  Yet it still looks good and does not cause an eye sore outside.  They are definitely a valuable piece of furniture because of how easily they can fit into any atmosphere.

The one very useful thing that I find in a outdoor rocking chair is that it can relax me so fast.  Just the thought of sitting there on my back patio rocking the hours away, drinking coffee, and reading a favorite book brings a smile to my face.  It can bring much enjoyment to all types of people.

Why is it that when people talk a about an old rocking chair they get the biggest smiles on their faces?  This smile comes because of the memories of rocking with their most favorite person in the world as a child or even as an adult.  However it happens, there will always be a special warmth that comes only from remembering special moments on a rocking chair.

You might not see them constantly advertised, but a rocking chair almost always makes its way to an outdoor setting.  It compliments any home garden due to  its decorative assistance, the peace it can bring, and the great memories.

Filed under: Exteriors, House and Home

There are many possible uses for pop up gazebos and they can be a great benefit to any kind of customer. These products are designed for use at outdoor events. These events may be small private affairs put on by home owners, or larger corporate or charity days that can be attended by thousands of people. What ever size event you are planning, there will be a pop up gazebo that is perfectly suited to both your needs and your budget.

One of the most common uses of a pop up gazebo is to shelter guests from the sun at garden parties and barbecues held by private citizens in their own homes. They can also be used to cover food and drinks tables, providing shade and protection from insects. Another use of pop up gazebos is providing shaded areas over a children’s sand pit or paddling pool. We all know the dangers of prolonged exposure to the suns UV rays, children are at a higher risk than adults so it is always sensible to take precautions.

Many pop up gazebos are also designed for use in less than favourable weather conditions. They are fitted with side panels to shield us against wind and rain, as well as guide rope systems that will improve safety and stability.

The internet is a great place to begin looking for a well priced pop up gazebo of any size or design. Many online retailers will specialise in the supply of these products, allowing them to offer wide product ranges and low prices. It is important to compare the prices offered by online retailers for any kind of product you buy, the same is true for pop up gazebos. Because these structures can be large, it is also wise to check the delivery charges for different retailers.

Sentinel Outdoor Storage Shed

Filed under: Exteriors, House and Home

As the complete outdoor storage solution, the Sentinel outdoor shed has every feature you could want.  The Sentinel storage unit is created out of highly durable resin panels reinforced with steel. With a full 80 square feet of floor space, the Sentinel has enough room for all of your yard tools and surplus storage. Users can also take advantage of the ample head space using shelves and loft baskets. Four convenient shelves are built right into the shed. The entryway stands at 6 feet tall, accommodating even tall shed owners. The durability of the polyurethane wall and roof panels are unmatched, resisting rotting, fading and cracking.

A common problem among sheds is the lack of windows to let light inside. The Sentinel features two windows on the front which are shatterproof, and a full window in the back. Ample light enters the shed during the day to allow users to see inside with ease. Four skylights ensure that light enters the structure no matter how the sunlight is angled. The double doors are lockable and feature a heavy duty latch mechanism. The door’s hinges are fully reinforced with steel pins. The slanted roof is supported by rigid A-frame trusses, allowing rain water to drain off quickly. Snow build up is easy to slide off due to the slanted design.

A sturdy and durable floor is always a must inside a shed. The Sentinel features a high density resin floor which can take a beating. Lawnmowers, tools, tables, and other rough objects will not damage this high quality flooring. Unlike wood floors, these polyurethane ones will not crack or peel with use. The flooring is also textured to prevent slipping and to keep objects in place. Oils and most chemicals will not damage or stain the floor material. A flat, hard surface is recommended as the foundation of the shed. Wood, brick and concrete surfaces work best to keep the shed level.

Another good shed manufacturer is Suncast. Suncast sheds are similar in design in that they use resin as the main panel material. A Suncast shed can even be used in conjunction with a Sentinel one.

Weaknesses of Solar Garden Lights

Filed under: Exteriors, House and Home

One of the most talked ways to light your landscape today is through the use of solar powered lights.  These lights are incredibly advanced, even compared to similar lights a few years ago, with more efficient solar cells that convert more of the sun’s energy to power, brighter lights that run on less and less power, and batteries that hold biggest charges for longer.  However, there are several limitations to where you can install solar lights that you need to be aware of before you get too excited about installing the system on your property.

Once solar powered garden lights are fully charged, they can remain on for up to twelve to fifteen hours.  Unfortunately, the problem is making sure that the lights are fully charged.  If you want your lights to work to the best of their ability you need to position them to be able to soak up the most amount of light possible.

This means that you will not be able to install solar powered lights in areas where there’s shade on your lawn and expect them to shine brightly late into the night.  It also means that in many areas of the country, where the climate is persistently not-sunny, rainy, or otherwise cloudy or dark, solar lights will not work to the best of their abilities.

This also mean that you will most likely need to prick the highest quality systems you can if you want your lights to work right.  Cheaper, lowe quality systems are available, but they have solar cells that are inefficient and won’t convert enough UV energy into electricity to power the battery through the night.  High quality systems will also be better able to weather a few cloudy days and still be able to stay bright well into the night.

Porch Awnings Made of Vinyl

Filed under: Exteriors, House and Home

What makes a porch awning durable and long-lasting?  This question as plague many an awning manufacturer for years.  In recent years, great advancements have been made in awning material fabrics and designs. The most common and popular type of awning, retractable awnings, have led the need for advancements.  Because of their design, the smaller the profile of these units, the easier they are on the eye for design reasons and also for purposes where a recreational vehicle (RV) might require them.  Awnings are very popular in this world and can be mounted to the side of the vehicle and just opened when parked at the campsite.

One fabric that makes this possible is vinyl.  Vinyl awnings allow for the material to be durable and also very user friendly.  This material has been improved throughout the years to now allow for a material that is both resistant to the damaging effects of the sun, easy to roll up and easy to clean.  These features combine to make it one of the best choices in fabric materials.  It is also easily dyed and can stand up to the wear and tear of repeated opening and retracting.

Without this fabric, we might still be using something that would need replacing every other season.  Now, we have a material that can be used for many years with great results.  One of the more notable names in the awning industry is Sunbrella™.  They have really pioneered some aspects in this field.  Their process for dying the nylon fibers, when still wet, allows for the color to be embedded in the nature of the final product.  This is the reason behind the longer lasting colors in many of today’s awnings.  If you want to ensure that yours has this feature, look for the Sunbrella™ name on your next porch awning.

Getting a Head Start on Your Garden with Mini Greenhouses

Filed under: Exteriors, House and Home

With gardening season still a month or two away, now is a good time to start thinking about what you want to plant and how you will start your produce. If you are the type of gardener that likes to start with seeds, it is not too early to start them now. Mini greenhouses can provide the right environment for growing from seeds, and gives the gardener an easy way to hardening-off the plants once they get to a certain size, before planting them in an outdoor plot.

A great way to start seeds in the late winter or early spring is to some type of shelving that can sit on an enclosed porch or patio that receives a fair amount of sunlight during the day. Plastic trays filled with potting soil can be placed on the shelves; the seeds can be planted in the soil. Keeping the shelf against a wall of the house will provide some warmth. Put a roll of heavy, clear plastic on the top shelf, and roll it down over the front before sunset, when the temperature drops.

A cold frame or even a walk in greenhouse kit can be set up the prepared garden area a week or so ahead of plating time to let the soil warm enough for planting. Seeds can be directly planted under the frame. As the temperature increases during the day, the top glass or heavy plastic lid can be tilted up, allowing for ventilation and to keep the area from getting too hot and moist. Remember, plants will naturally create moisture in the air, too much and our plants will begin to mildew.

For many gardeners, the planting season cannot start soon enough. Taking advantage of one of these suggestions can let the joy of working with soil and plants begin a few weeks, or even a few months earlier. For more information on setting up a mini greenhouse and for some basic tips on making your plants and garden thrive this coming season, please visit Your Mini Greenhouse.
